Clary Sage Essential Oil is extracted by steam distillation from the flowering tops and leaves of Salvia sclarea. It is indigenous to Southern Europe and cultivated for its oil in France and Russia. The greatest benefit of this oil is its calming influence on the nerves and is particularly useful for feminine ailments and complaints. It is also said to help skin problems such as acne, boils, and ulcers and to ease aching muscles and joints.

In the Middle Ages, it was known as Oculus Christi, meaning "the eye of Christ." It was a highly esteemed medicine ever since. In Jamaica, it was used by locals to clean and cool ulcers and for inflammation of the eyes.
